Superman Movie Review: James Gunn Brings Back The Heart In Superman With David Corenswet In Lead; Must Watch

Superman Movie Review: The Superman 2025 movie has finally arrived, and fans of the DC Universe have been waiting eagerly for this superhero reboot. Directed by James Gunn, the film introduces David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, following legends like Henry Cavill, Christopher Reeve, and Brandon Routh.
With Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, this latest installment blends action, emotion, and epic superhero moments. Well, Superman (2025) has finally hit the theatres in India today (July 11). Let's take a look at the full review here.
SUPERMAN PLOT REVIEW WITHOUT SPOILERS
The story kicks off with a dramatic twist - Superman suffers his first major defeat at the hands of a powerful enemy, Ultraman. But before things take a deadly turn, his mischievous and loyal dog Krypto swoops in for the rescue. The injured Superman is taken to a secure recovery center. As the story unfolds, it's revealed that Ultraman is just a puppet in a bigger game run by Superman's longtime nemesis, Lex Luthor (played convincingly by Nicholas Hoult).
Lex manipulates world politics by arming Boravia, an unstable region, in exchange for a part of Jarhanpur, a fictional underdeveloped nation that stands with Superman. Meanwhile, Superman continues to balance his second identity as Clark Kent, a journalist at the Daily Planet, and is in a serious relationship with fellow reporter Lois Lane, portrayed by Rachel Brosnahan.
James Gunn, known for adding depth to superhero tales (like in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), takes a more emotional and human approach to this Superman reboot. He doesn't just focus on explosions and superpowers. Instead, he brings out the humanity in Superman - the moral dilemmas, the emotional struggles, and his kindness. The film explores serious themes like power, corruption, and global politics without becoming too heavy or preachy.
SUPERMAN PERFORMANCE AND VISUALS REVIEW
David Corenswet shines as the new Superman. He brings a fresh energy and emotional range that makes the audience root for him. Rachel Brosnahan is delightful as Lois Lane, delivering a strong performance that adds both charm and strength to the story. Nicholas Hoult makes for a fearsome Lex Luthor, blending cold calculation with power-hungry madness.
Supporting performances by Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced enhance the narrative and keep the energy high. The film also features a few surprising cameos that will surely leave fans cheering in their seats.
SUPERMAN OVERALL VERDICT
James Gunn's Superman is more than just another superhero film. It's a cinematic experience that balances action, emotion, and strong moral values. With stunning visuals, memorable characters, and a heartfelt story, it's a must-watch for every fan of the genre.
