In a heartfelt gesture honoring his father's legacy, Karan Johar recently shared his excitement about Dharma Production's inaugural Punjabi film, citing it as a fitting homage to his late father, Yash Johar's, Punjabi heritage. During the trailer launch, Karan Johar shared his father's deep connection with Punjab, noting his upbringing across Punjab, Delhi, Shimla, and Lahore. He highlighted how his father's Punjabi roots were an integral part of his identity, despite the linguistic blend of Punjabi, Hindi, and English within their household due to his mother's Sindhi background.

Karan Johar's father, Yash Johar, held his Punjabi culture and traditions close to his heart, and though Karan communicated with him in Hindi or English, the essence of Punjab was always a significant part of their lives. Karan expressed, "He was very much attached to his roots, culture, and his Punjabi traditions. He wanted me to talk with him in Punjabi but my mother is a Sindhi, so we would talk in Hindi or English." This emotional connection to his father's roots played a pivotal role in Dharma Production's decision to venture into Punjabi cinema.

Furthermore, Karan Johar emphasized the importance of this project as a tribute to his father's memory, stating, "Wherever he is in the world, he would be proud that this is Dharma Production's first Punjabi film." He also expressed his admiration for Gippy Grewal, describing him as the perfect partner for this endeavor. Johar admired Grewal's humility, talent, and achievements, adding, "I couldn't have chosen a better and stronger and amazing collaborator than Gippy Grewal, he is a strong force. He is so humble, talented, and has attained so much."
