An iconic figure of the Telugu film industry, V.S.R. Swamy, passed away on Monday night in Machilipatinam where he had gone to attend a marriage. He suffered an acute cardiac arrest and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he breathed his last.

V.S.R. Swamy, who worked in Alluri Seetaramaraju, Bhakta Tukaram, Mosagallaki Mosagadu Andala Ramudu (1973), Bhakta Kannappa (1976), Siri Siri Muvva (1978), Simhasanam, Samara Sinha Reddy and Narasinha Naidu was at the forefront of cinematography from the 1970s onwards.

His first film as director of photography was Asadhyudu. Since then, he handled the camera for over 100 Telugu blockbusters. He also dabbled in direction and wielded the megaphone for Apadhbandhuvulu and Maha Shaktimaan (Hindi). Though he started a film with Srikanth as hero, the project was shelved halfway.

His last film as cinematographer was Adavi Ramudu featuring Prabhas.
