Career

In 2016, Karthick Subbaraj's anthology movie Aviyal featured his short film Kalam. He made his debut as a filmmaker of a full movie in 2017 with the critically acclaimed Tamil movie Maanagaram. Then he created "Kaithi," his second picture, with the same production company. This one-night drama had no heroine, no music, and a fast-paced screenplay, and it helped him become famous because it was a fresh effort in Indian cinema.

Following the success of his first two films, he followed up with the film Master, starring Thalapathy Vijay. In this movie, Vijay Sethupathi played a huge antagonist, which was well-received by the audience and brought in a sizable box office haul. He regards Kamal Hasan as his idol, and he has produced three consecutively profitable films. He provided the necessary hit for Kollywood and for his hero when the future of Tamil cinema was on the line. This earned him a big box office haul of more than 400 crores and established him as a respected filmmaker in the film business. He gained notoriety along with Tamil cinema's greatest talents and evolved into an undisputable director.

In the 2022 Tamil action thriller "Vikram," director Lokesh Kanagaraj teamed up with veteran actor Kamal Haasan. The film wasn't just a new story - it was a spiritual successor to a 1986 movie of the same name. Haasan plays a former black-ops commander hunting down a drug lord, while their paths cross with a special investigator (played by Fahadh Faasil). This collaboration brought together a star actor with a rising director, resulting in a critically acclaimed movie that's part of Lokesh's cinematic universe.

Lokesh Kanagaraj and Vijay teamed up for the 2023 action-crime film "Leo," a major box office success.  The film's high point was their collaboration.  Praised for its action sequences and story, "Leo" established Lokesh's "Lokesh Cinematic Universe" (LCU) and marked a successful first pairing between director and actor.  Their work together has fans excited for a potential sequel.
