Sri Danamma Devi was a follower of Jagajyothi Basavanna, the 12th century founder of the Basava Dharma, practised by the Lingayat community. Sharane Sri Danamma Devi is worshipped as an incarnation of Goddess Parvati.
A temple was erected after she attained Maha Nirvana, in Guddapur, Sangli District in present-day Maharastra. Sri Danamma Devi is worshipped as a very powerful Goddess, with the power to fulfill any of her devotees' wishes and has thus been called 'Daan'-amma Devi.
