Plot

Maargan is a gripping murder mystery crime thriller that delves deep into the dark layers of a high-stakes investigation. At its center is a seasoned senior police officer, entangled in a complex case where each lead reveals disturbing new truths. As the plot thickens, the tension intensifies with the entry of a mysterious and intelligent antagonist, making their chilling debut. With every twist, Maargan builds a slow-burning yet electrifying atmosphere of suspense and danger.

Maargan Story

Ramya is mysteriously murdered at night through a blackening chemical injection. The case echoes the death of former ADGP Dhruv Guvarak’s daughter, Priya. Dhruv arrives from Mumbai to Chennai to unofficially take charge, joining hands with Inspector Shruthi and constable Kaali. Dhruv begins probing Ramya’s boyfriend, Karthik, a budding film photographer. A missing pendant from Ramya’s chain becomes a vital clue. CCTV reveals a hooded jogger near the scene. The investigation points to Tamilarivu, a swimmer with a criminal past and a photographic memory.

Tamilarivu is arrested and behaves erratically, chanting hymns and demanding pills. He reveals Ramya was once his lover, but she left him due to his refusal to abandon his sister. He denies killing her. His ability to recall memories under water becomes instrumental to the case. Through underwater memory recovery, Tamilarivu recalls glimpses of the crime. A pendant drawing leads them to CCTV footage that confirms his innocence. Dhruv, sharing his own painful past, convinces Tamilarivu to help solve the murder using his memory.

Clues lead Dhruv and his team to Kovilambakkam. A young blind girl’s account of an owl’s hoot and suspicion on drug cartels build tension. Tamilarivu’s sister briefly goes missing, and another murder—cosmetologist Dr. Shalini—occurs, raising the stakes.Vennila, a model and potential next victim, is revealed to have undergone skin-lightening for a biopic role. The film’s producer Sana replaces her, enraging Vennila. Dhruv’s team installs a spy cam in her outfit and follows her to a party in Mahabalipuram, fearing she might be targeted.

Tamilarivu, guarding Vennila’s house, is knocked unconscious but later revives and uncovers the shocking truth—Vennila is the killer. She is actually Mega, a trauma-ridden woman who killed Priya due to being ridiculed for her dark skin by her ex, Sadiq. Mega assumed a new identity and eliminated women she felt were preferred for their fair skin—Priya, Ramya, and almost Sana. Dhruv intervenes during her final attempt, fatally shooting her and saving Sana. Karthik mourns her, reflecting on the cruelty of colorism in the industry.

Maargan will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video from July 25, 2025, in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi, catering to a pan‑Indian audience. Additionally, the film will also be available for international viewers (excluding India) on Tentkotta starting the same date.
